The field that I am researching is nursing. Specifically what I am digging into within my career research is being a CNA. During COVID it has been very difficult to actually get in touch with a gynecologist so I settled for doing something along the lines of nursing; since that is an interest of mine as well. My interviewee’s name is Nancy Rios and she holds the position of being a CNA. A CNA is also known as a certified nursing assistant in the medical field. My list of questions consisted of things such as her personal experience with patients and of how the company runs. While Nancy has enjoyed her job description of helping older people and being a part of the caring community, she definitely considers her place of employment when discussing the benefits and cons. The place someone is employed can make or break their own experience. “Having amazing and supportive coworkers allows us to enjoy what we do, we are a family”. Her experience has been very positive but there is one big hardship that takes place through this job description. Witnessing deaths has not been easy according to Nancy due to the fact that shared relationships with patients can make the feelings overwhelming. For more concrete information regarding this job description the pay is around 17 an hour and a certification in the nursing assistant program which is offered at most universities/colleges. The best environment is known to be steady but can consist of bumps or fast paced working especially since the pandemic has come into play. The best parts for Nancy consist of the smiles and laughs communicated with the patients. The shared experiences built up the bonds. The worst part is death, especially when there was a solid relationship with a patient. This job shadow reflection did not alter my plans of the future. While it was great to hear about different opportunities, I will continue to further my education in gynecology and within studying psychology.
